It May Be A Dry Heat, But It's Still Hot In Las Vegas
Summer in Las Vegas has people constantly asking about the heat. Here's my best explanation of how to deal with it.
Dealing with the Las Vegas heat depends a lot on where you are from and what you are used to. If you are from the South where it still gets hot with a lot of humidity, then you may deal better with the temperatures than those from places further north that don't experience such high heat indexes. Yes it is true that Vegas is a dry heat. Low humidity for those that are used to 70% humidity may think 110 degrees in Vegas is not near as bad at home. I tend to agree. If I stay out of direct sunlight I'm rather comfortable even when temperature hit triple digits. I'd much rather have 115 in Vegas than 95 with high humidity, but there are still issues that arise with such heat.
The dry air coupled with high temperatures will hasten dehydration and several people have issues with sinus infections, chapped lips and mild discomfort adjusting. I've yet to find the perfect solution to this. Of course staying hydrated as much as possible is a must. Saline spray helps a little with the sinus issues that I have while in Vegas, but it's not a cure all. Remembering to use lip balm helps tremendously. I've using vaseline in the nasal cavities in the past, but it is just a gross feeling so I just stick with saline spray. Try to use it often. Some people will fill their bath tub with water if their room has one to help incrase humidity in their hotel room while they sleep. Personally I would feel too guilty doing this as if I were wasting water. I've yet to try a humidifier, because of wanting to save space in my luggage to take one, but it certainly may be a viable option if you really have issues with the heat.
The most obvious solution is to try to plan pool time if that's your thing and your excursions outside of your hotel until later in the evening when it cools down a bit, but understandably it's Vegas and you want to do as much as possible so that's not much of an answer. There are things that can be done at night and with the neon lights is an even more enjoyable experience so do that as much as possible. As I mentioned before no matter the time of day always take the option to stay hydrated as much as possible to make the most out of your trip in the summer months or during the rest of the year because with the dry air, dehydration is a constant issue.
