Proudmonkey's Roulette Matchplay Method
If you haven't read my explanation on match plays, I'd suggest reading it first so you understand how they work. In this blog I will explain my method for using match plays on roulette tables in order to maximize winnings (or minimizing losses,)
First, you must understand how the 3-2 Flop (aka 3-2 Plop, Ploppy, Floppy) strategy works. Before I go any further please note there are no guaranteed methods. If it were guaranteed, then casinos would not allow it, as with any type of gambling there is always a risk involved. The 3-2 Flop method is a simple betting strategy on roulette. 3 units on either red or black that pays 1:1 coupled with 2 units on either the 2nd or the 3rd column that pays 2:1. If your 3 units are on red, then your 2 units goes on the 2nd or middle column (2-35). If you 3 units are on black, then your 2 units go on the 3rd column (3-36).
This leaves you with 18 reds that you will win on, 8 black numbers and 4 red numbers that you will win both bets on. You only lose on 10 of the black numbers or any 0's the table may have. Giving you roughly a 70% winning percentage. You are basically doing a slight hedge with the 2 unit bet while still keeping the possibility of turning a profit.
With a match play you will use it on your red/black bet then adjust your bets according. Let's pretend it is a $10 match play. You will place your own $10 and the $10 matchplay on red for a total of $20. With the 3-2 system that would require a $13.33 bet on the middle column, so I just round that up to $15.
Possible results:
Green 0,00,000 (don't play 000): you lose everything. -$25
Red number in the first or third column. $30 on your red bet ($20 plus your $10 bet back) and lose the $15 for a profit of $5.
Black number in the first or third column: You lose both bets -$25
Black number in the middle column: You lose your red bet (-$10) Win the 2:1 column bet $45 ($30 plus your $15 bet back) for a profit of $20.
Red number in the middle column. You win both bets. $30 on red ($20 on the bet plus your $10 that you matched with back) $45 on the middle column bet ($30 plus your $15 bet back) For a total profit of $50.
In short you are guaranteed some sort of profit on 26 numbers. Losing on 10 of the black plus however many 0's are on the table. You raise your chance of winning to around 70% as opposed to a straght red/black bet that is in the range of 47% giving up some profit for the boost in winning percentage.
Often you will find yourself doing matchplays with a friend, significant other, etc. In this situation what I will do is go first and do as above. Afterwards I will stay in the game and just do the 2 unit bet to hedge the bet of my companion while they just do the straght red/black match play. Then afterwards, we can split any winnings. This is completely options if you choose to do so.
Some of you may be asking yourself, if there are two people why not one person bet black and the other bet red with their match play and end up with a guaranteed win to split? Admittedly we have done that in the past. My issue with this is I'm sure its frowned upon by the casino. They are, barring a 0, guaranteed to lose money. Some casinos, Downtown Grand in Las Vegas for example, will not allow it. Plus if too many people do it, then the casinos will eventually opt out of offering match plays or put more restrictions on them. I'm not saying don't do it, but consider that you could be ruining it for everyone.
Thanks for reading. I wish you luck if you try the 3-2 flop method with your match plays.
